SPEED SHOW vol.2: who the fuck do you think you are talking to?

via fffff.at: "The 2nd edition of the SPEED SHOW presents again a wide selection of pop.net.art pieces and addresses various developments of performance related but still screen based art works. Most interaction and communication on the web bears it’s very own performance character. One could say Facebook is a huge mass performance piece. net.art in it’s classic form could be considered a performance by interactivity as well. In recent years artists from different fields work increasingly in a mix of performances and digital interventions. In some cases the screen itself, the beholder of the pixel is subject to fluctuations. In other works the performance is acted out by a hysterical mass or just by the code."

next 2 days: save 50% on tc electronic plugins

via tc electronics: "For just two more days, today and tomorrow (June 15), you can save 50% on all TC Electronic plug-ins for PowerCore and Pro Tools - plus a few additional ones! For example, you can get the amazing M30 reverb plug-in that runs natively on your computer for only $35!"

This offer might be especially interestin for people owning the tc powercore units. As I own the tc powercore compact (only available via ebay these days) i was wondering if the Access Virus PowerCore Plugin sounds as good as the original Virus synthesizer. The PowerCore PCI is currently priced 399€ at thomann, the TC electronic PowerCore Firewire 19" variant is 998€ (also thomann). UPDATE: you can get my powercore compact from the audio sellout list.

Ableton Live 8.1.1 Bugfix Release

Ableton Live 8.1.1 was released to the public, with a lot of bugfixes, stabilizing the quite unstable 8.1 release that was introduced maybe too fast because of max for live. Live Lite and Live Intro are not yet supported with Live 8.1.1
Note: "If you own Suite and have already installed Suite 8.1, then you can download the Live 8.1.1 installer which has a smaller download size." See a list of all the Changes in the details of this entry.

Max/Msp for Live with Ableton Live 8.1 Final REVIEW (max for live)

This is a review of „max for live“ using Ableton Live 8.1 FINAL and max/msp 5.1 on a Mac OSX 10.5.8 Core2Duo Intel MacBook Pro. As I am a frequent user of all kinds of visual DSP systems for quite a while now: pure data (PD), max/msp, vvvv, nord modular OS, etc. - so I am quite dazzled what max for live has to offer. (Read the full Entry to see the Review)

Instruments, Audio Effects, Midi Effects - but of course, this is not all of the cake. Imagine you can create user-interface elements however you please and also assign MIDI to that interface parts. This brings Ableton Live huge steps forward: the possibility to extend ableton to include a full featured audiovisual prototyping environment and to interface with the world: be it sensors, webservices or other Ableton Live installations.

8Bitone and Vocoder Synthesizer SV-5 for iPhone

8bitone_iphone_retro_synthesizer.png

via wiretotheear: going 8bit with yudo iphone apps

8Bitone is a combination of a nonlinear audio editor and a chiptunes synthesizer. Vocoder SV-5
8Bitone (iTunes link) and Vocoder Synthesizer SV-5 (iTunes link) look like very nice and compact audio tools for the go. There so many other junk iPhone apps out there that actually something retro-fresh like those two apps really make my day. Together with the Nintendo DS I can build a minimal space sound studio soon ;)

The Future Sounds Like This: 10 Magnificently Modern Musical Instruments

MontageMusical1_weburbanist.jpg

via weburbanist: "The study of musical instruments (’organology’ – no, really) is the study of the human condition. Every culture is defined by its own distinctive set of trills, whistles, parps, honks and beats, and every corner of the world has evolved its own location-specific indigenous instrument to renew a sense of cultural identity through noisy self-expression. And instruments evolve – never more so than now, in the midst of a technological revolution that has opened up entirely new ways to make music. So settle back and compose yourself as we look at ten new instruments that look set to accompany us into the world of tomorrow."
